Mission Statement – To create an opportunity for young women to explore their identity which results in positive changes within themselves that contributes to healthy living.

HAIR – Helping Adolescents Improve their Reflections is a fresh and innovative program for adolescent girls of African descent. It enables them to obtain confidence and build their own understanding of self image, identities while strengthening relationships with their families and communities.

The program’s intention is to improve and increase the young women’s self-esteem, confidence and appearance by using a non-threatening, non-talk-therapy workshop format.  Hair care, personal self-care, image nutrition and wellbeing presentations is the main focus of the group’s activities and discussions.

The program is delivered in an environment that is safe, welcoming and respectful of whom they are and whom they will become as young women. The young women will effect changes in themselves regarding respect of their body as a reflection of who they are and a projection of where they want to go in life. They develop an understanding of how to engaging the public that is more than just how to fix their hair or the choice of their clothing attire, but also how they feel about themselves, their community and how the society perceives them.

The participants complete the 8-week program with new skills and a commitment to build and maintain a healthy positive lifestyle for themselves. This information is transferable throughout all stages of their lives and is applicable to their personal and professional development.
